Why Irradiated Homologous Costal Cartilage (IHCC)?
Costal cartilage rib grafts are commonly employed in rhinoplasty procedures. Given the potential complications at the donor site and within the rhinoplasty itself when using autogenous rib cartilage, alternative cartilage sources are increasingly favored for appropriate cases. Costal cartilage allografts, also known as Irradiated Homologous Costal Cartilage (IHCC), offer a practical substitute or even become the primary material for grafting when a patient lacks sufficient septal or auricular cartilage. This is particularly relevant when the available cartilage cannot provide the necessary structural integrity or shape.
